Terms of Service
Last updated: February 16, 2026
Welcome to The Boardgame Librarian. Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using our website at boardgamelibrarian.ai ("Web App") and our Telegram bot @TheBoardgameLibrarianBot ("Telegram Bot"), collectively referred to as the "Service".
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. About the Service
The Boardgame Librarian is a free, AI-powered question-answering service that helps board gamers find answers to rules questions. The Service searches through an indexed knowledge base of official rulebook content and aggregated web sources, then uses AI to synthesise accurate answers with source citations.
The Service is an independent, non-commercial project created and maintained by an individual developer. It is not affiliated with any board game publisher or any other organization.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By using the Service, you confirm that:
- You are at least 16 years old.
- You agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
- If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
3. The Service
3.1 What We Provide
- AI-generated answers to board game rules questions, based on an indexed knowledge base of official rulebook content and synthesised analysis of aggregated web sources.
- Source citations referencing specific rulebooks and relevant sources.
- Confidence scores indicating the AI's certainty level.
- Multilingual support in 29+ languages.
- Two access channels: a web application and a Telegram bot.
3.2 Service Availability
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We strive for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:
- Scheduled maintenance (typically performed during low-traffic hours).
- Infrastructure issues beyond our control.
- Updates and improvements to the Service.
We are under no obligation to provide advance notice of downtime, though we will make reasonable efforts to communicate planned maintenance.
4. User Accounts
4.1 Web App Accounts
To use the Web App, you must create a free account with a valid email address. You are responsible for:
- Providing accurate registration information.
- Keeping your password secure and confidential.
- All activity that occurs under your account.
- Notifying us immediately at admin@boardgamelibrarian.ai if you suspect unauthorized access.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
4.2 Telegram Bot
The Telegram Bot does not require a separate account. Your identity is managed through Telegram's platform. By using the Telegram Bot, you also agree to Telegram's own Terms of Service.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for its intended purpose: asking questions about board game rules and related topics. You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, its servers, or databases.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access the Service in a way that exceeds reasonable personal use (e.g., mass scraping of answers).
- Submit content that is abusive, hateful, threatening, or otherwise objectionable.
- Impersonate another person or entity.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the Service.
- Use the Service to systematically collect or harvest answers for commercial purposes without our written permission.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for any user who violates these guidelines, with or without notice.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Our Service
The Service — including its design, code, AI prompts, user interface, and branding — is the intellectual property of The Boardgame Librarian's creator. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the Service without our written permission.
6.2 Knowledge Base Content
The Service generates AI-synthesised answers based on an indexed knowledge base that includes official rulebook content and aggregated web sources. All answers are original AI-generated syntheses — the Service does not reproduce, redistribute, or make available any third-party content in its original form. Source citations are provided for reference purposes only, directing users to original materials.
6.3 Your Content
You retain ownership of the questions you ask. By using the Service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store and process your questions for the purpose of providing and improving the Service. We may use anonymized, aggregated question data to improve answer quality and to offer publishers statistical insights about rule clarity (see our Privacy Policy, Section 7).
7. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
This is critical: answers provided by the Service are AI-generated and may contain errors.
- Answers are generated by artificial intelligence based on indexed knowledge base content and synthesised analysis of aggregated web sources. They are not official rulings from game publishers.
- While we strive for accuracy by providing source citations and confidence scores, the AI may misinterpret rules, omit relevant information, or produce incorrect answers.
- Always verify important rulings by checking the original rulebook. The Service provides page references and source links to help you do this.
- We are not responsible for any disputes, game outcomes, or decisions made based on answers from the Service.
- Confidence scores indicate the AI's self-assessed certainty. A high confidence score does not guarantee a correct answer.
8. Pricing and Fees
The Service is currently free of charge for all users on both the Web App and Telegram Bot. There are no hidden fees, premium tiers, or paid features.
We reserve the right to introduce optional paid features in the future (such as publisher analytics tools). If we do, the core rules Q&A service for gamers will remain free. We will provide reasonable notice before introducing any paid features.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
- We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
- We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated answers.
- In no event shall The Boardgame Librarian or its creator be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.
- Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed £100 (one hundred pounds sterling).
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or (c) any liability that cannot be excluded or limited by applicable law.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Boardgame Librarian and its creator from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; or (c) your violation of any rights of a third party.
11. Termination
11.1 By You
You may stop using the Service at any time. To request deletion of your Web App account and associated data, contact us at admin@boardgamelibrarian.ai. For Telegram, you may simply stop using the bot; to request deletion of your data, contact us at the same email address.
11.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Reasons for termination may include, but are not limited to:
- Violation of these Terms.
- Abusive or excessive use that impacts other users.
- Extended periods of inactivity (accounts inactive for more than 12 months may be deleted after notice).
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (Sections 6, 7, 9, 10, and 13) will survive.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. When we make significant changes:
- We will update the "Last updated" date at the top.
- We will notify Web App users via email for material changes.
- Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
If you disagree with any changes, your remedy is to stop using the Service and request deletion of your account.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
For EU consumers: nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under applicable EU consumer protection laws. You may also use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
14. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
15. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and The Boardgame Librarian regarding the Service.
